CHEZ BABUSIA
Each piece of jewellery is a story, born of an original design, carefully thought out and hand-woven. No model is reproduced: each piece is unique, like its wearer.
Inspired by Slavic folklore, the creations combine finesse, poetry and character. They are accompanied by posters and cards from the brand's emblematic collections.
Wearing Babusia jewellery means choosing slowness, uniqueness and respect for the gesture. It's a choice for the sensitive and the symbolic, far from the déjà-vu.
ITS CREATOR, VIRGINIE
Behind Babusia is a story of memory.
Trained in the visual arts and documentary filmmaking, for a long time I've been looking for a way to tell the story of my origins, women and the silences I've passed on.
Babusia was born as a natural continuation of my film Entre les montagnes noires, in which I told the story of my family of Polish origin, who came to work in the mines of northern France. That film took as its starting point the mining estate where I grew up, which was in the process of being demolished, and linked it to the broader story of immigration.
Today, I weave in a different way: through jewellery, but always with the same eye.
Each collection is a mosaic of memories: wreaths of flowers, folk costumes, silhouettes of babushkas.
Each piece of jewellery becomes a fragment of memory, a poetic trace to carry with you.
BABUSIA COLLECTIONS
Babusia's collections are like chapters, each carrying a voice, a colour, a memory:
"Folk dolls": portraits of imaginary Slavic women
"Zalipie": woven flowers, a tribute to the motifs of painted houses
"Krakowiaks": jewellery inspired by traditional Polish dances
"Babushkas": silhouettes of women with knotted scarves - symbols of strength and discretion.
The first signature collection, the one that is closest to my heart, is the "Krakowiak" collection, which has become "Poupées folk". Portraits of Polish women in folk costume. Then came Ukrainian and Bulgarian dolls...
Babusia is not a static brand, but a thread woven between past and present, between the gestures of jewellery and those of memory.
METICULOUS KNOW-HOW
Each piece of Babusia jewellery is hand-woven, bead by bead, with patience and precision.
I mainly use peyote stitch, a flexible and durable weaving technique that produces a fine, structured finish.
The Delica Japanese beads, renowned for their finesse and regularity, are chosen one by one.
I tend towards even smaller formats, to refine the detail and create an almost textile texture.
This work requires time, attention and total commitment.
It's a conscious choice: one that's slow, unique and handmade.
Each piece is created in the silence of the studio, at its own pace.
