WHO I AM

I am Virginie, creator of Babusia. I design and craft each piece of jewellery by hand, using thread and Japanese glass beads. My work is part of a slow process, where each piece takes time to come into being, far removed from standardised production.

Before Babusia, I already expressed myself through images. I made the film "Entre les Montagnes Noires" (Between the Black Mountains), a work focused on origins, filiation and speech. A film about men, interwoven with their stories, it reveals a family memory. This film, written largely in the first person, was a first attempt to explore the question of origins. Jewellery came later, as another form of extension, more silent, more material. Female figures now occupy a central place in my creations. I draw faces and silhouettes that extend this visual universe that was born long before jewellery. Flowers also occupy a central place, extending the figures and their adornments.
Each collection emerges from a specific moment: a season, a light, an emotion. They follow one another without seeking to establish themselves permanently, leaving room for the next ones.

Babusia was thus built at the crossroads of family heritage, a cinematic eye, and craftsmanship that has become a language.
